One of the frist things that I noticed on Vigo prom was the sculpture of a giant man who looked like he’d toppled off his leg-like support.

Everywhere I walked in Vigo I happened upon various sculptures; a mix of modern and traditional.

Another of my favourite sculptures in the city was the man sitting on a octopus on the prom.

Here are my tips for things to do in Vigo in Galicia in north western Spain.
Enjoy the View from Parque de Castrelos
You get some of the best views of Vigo from Parque de Castrelos. I was there in the late afternoon, an hour or so before sunset.

Take a Dip at Playa de Samil
It wasn’t quite warm enough for swimming during my trip to Vigo, but you can take a walk along the prom.

I stayed at the four star AC Palacio Universal Vigo for four nights, on a complimentary basis, during the 2nd Blogger Trip Vigo in October 2012. The hotel is located by the prom and harbour.

A really strong smell of cigarette smoke hit me as soon as I opened the door to my room. I went straight back down to reception to request a smoke free room. I was then allocated a room on the fifth (top) floor. The room was in the roof so had one sloping wall with two Velux windows. I couldn’t get one of the blinds to open but didn’t say anything until I checked out, as I really didn’t want to either have someone up to fix it or be allocated yet another room. I often think that many guests don’t bother to report faults in rooms, but staff should also do regular checks to ensure everything is in working order.

A couple of years ago Inka wrote a post on Europe a la Carte about her trip to the Playa de Rodas on the Cies Islands in Galicia, north western Spain. which has been called one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I was delighted that a visit to the islands was on the itinerary for my Blogger Trip Vigo in October 2012.

However, not being at my best on the water, I was a bit apprehensive that the journey to the Cies Islands would be made on a charter yacht. This sentiment only intensified when I discovered that the three other bloggers on the trip, Cole of Four Jandals, Daniel of Viajares and Sebastian of Off the Path all had proven sea legs. Our tour guide Laura was also affected by sea sickness, so she gave me a pill. It was looking like the crossing from Vigo would be fairly smooth, so I boarded the charter yacht feeling quite confident.

The guys ease with being at sea was all too evident as they clambered around the vessel to get the best shots. I was firmly anchored to my seat.

One of the most enjoyable things to do in Vigo, in Galicia in north western Spain, is to walk along the prom. My hotel, the AC Palacio Universal, was located just opposite the prom. I went out for a walk just before dusk, on the evening of my arrival in Vigo.
