Premier Inn Now Offer 30 Minutes Free WiFi

Update 22 April 2012 – When I checked into the Premier Inn Edinburgh Princes St yesterday they told me it’s 30 minutes free WiFi per device per day and that you don’t need an access code to get the free access. Sure enough  when I connected to the Premier Inn WiFi signal it took my to a sign up page where I had to give my name and email address and tick that I agreed to the T&Cs.

Premier Inn is now offering guests 30 minutes of free WiFi per day in all of their UK hotels.  I phoned Premier Inn to ask if the 30 minutes free WiFi is per room or per guest and they told me it’s per guest and that guests will be given a code on check-in to redeem the free access. Premier Inn have also reduced the cost of WiFi for guests who need to spend more than 30 minutes online to £3 for 24 hours, £10 for one week, £20 for one month and £125 for 12 months.

I assume that Premier Inn’s decision has, to some degree, been taken in response to their main UK rival Travelodge’s introduction of free WiFi in the Bar Cafes of their hotels. Anyway, it’s good news for budget travellers in the UK.

Although I have Vodafone mobile internet on my mobile phone and a T-Mobile USB modem for my netbook, it’s very useful to have access to free WiFi for uploading photos or videos, in order to stay within my data limits. Also, in the case of poor mobile broadband signal in the area.
