Take a Tour of the Medieval Region
Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its medieval settlements that have been around for over 900 years, is considered the medieval section of Bergen. See rows of colourful, lopsided buildings, wooden windows, hanging balconies, and learn about the history of the area as well as the many fires that engulfed the district over the centuries.

Visit the Bergen Museum
Part of the city’s university, the Bergen Museum gives visitors insight into both the cultural history and natural history of the town. Exhibits on Norse and Scandinavian culture as well as Vikings will keep you engrossed for hours. It’s one Neha’s recommendations in her museums of Bergen post.

Get a Lesson on Norway’s Most Famous Composers at the Edvard Grieg Museum
This lyrical museum is set in the house that Edvard Grieg lived and composed in. The Edvard Grieg Museum features memories of his lifetime, some of his greatest works, and his tomb. For an even bigger picture of the musical fare in Bergen, attend one of their public or private concerts held here in the Summer and Fall.

Hike (or Ride) Up Mount Ulriken
At 642 Meters, Mount Ulriken is the highest of the 7 mountains in Bergen. Active travelers can hike to the top, while those who just want to relax and enjoy the experience have the option to go up in a cable car. Once there, you will have the chance to take in beautiful views of the city, coastline, and fjords.

Shop and Sample the Goods at the Fish Market
Literally called the Fisketurget, the fish market in Bergen is situated right in the center of town. This colourful, waterfront market is free to enter, and includes more than just seafood such as crafts, flowers, souvenirs, and farm products. Get a taste of local flavor by sample the fresh seafood, such as the king crab and raw oysters.

Go Fishing
All year long, locals and travelers alike enjoy angling along the coast of Bergen. You can contact the Bergen Angling Association at 55-32-11-64 for general information or rent a boat yourself from a Rorbu Centre or Activity Centre . Explore Damsgaard Manor
This Rococo-style mansion was built in the 1770′s. While the building has been restored, the outdoor garden displays the same plant life that would have grown in the 18th century. Take a guided tour and be taken back in time to the 18th century, attend a flute concert in the main ballroom, or a take a stroll through the sculptures and fountains on the grounds.
Take in the View at the Rosenkrantz Tower
The Rosenkrantz Tower, an olden day castle which also features a basement dungeon, is a big part of the history of Bergen. Parts of the tower date back to 1270, although there have been extensions built on. Explore the exhibits, stroll the well-manicured lawns, and climb the 5 floors of winding staircase to the top for breathtaking views of city and sea.

Cruise the Fjords
Bergen is the perfect home-base to visit the fjords, with the longest fjord, Sognefjord, being 70 kilometers from the city. The fjords were formed during the ice age from melting water that forced its way under the ice to create deep, narrow inlets between the tall mountains of Norway.
