Thanks very much for these tips! Myself and my husband just relocated to Prague and I’ll definitely be exploring everything here on your list. :D
Megan it must be wonderful to be living in Prague. I haven’t managed to get there yet but after researching and writing this post, I’m keener than ever to visit Prague.
So far, it is one of the most accessibly beautiful cities I’ve ever been in, despite the fact that there is so much to see as to be almost overwhelming!
Great tips. The kafka trail sounds fun!
Nice post- have bookmarked for my second trip to Prague.
Cesky Krumlov is a dreamy town straight out of a fairytale book.
If visiting definitely stay at Pension Jana: great little B&B where you can get a double room for £33 in high season and £27 in Low.
Thanks for the article, Karen! Great info…and we’re happy to see that we were featured in the article – I work for Czech Inn! We posted your article on our facebook page, check it out: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Prague-Czech-Republic/Czech-Inn-Hostel/57803086052?ref=ts.
I’d definitely recommend Krumlov House for accommodation in Cesky Krumlov – it is a small place, owned by a great couple…and it is beautiful – recycled wood was used to make the interior and the place has a ton of character. There are both private rooms and shared rooms: http://www.krumlovhostel.com/. I got engaged in Cesky Krumlov and called it my second home…absolutely beautiful and quaint with a really good vibe. Deli 99 is a great choice for breakfast, light lunch or coffee, try a trdelnik at the trdelnik stand on the way up to the castle, grab some shisha and yummy tea at Dobra Cajovna, stop at Antre for the best hot chocolate you’ll ever have…the list goes on. I love that town. One thing, though – I wouldn’t really call it a day trip from Prague. It takes about 3 hours each way to get there (I’d recommend Student Agency – it’s cheap and good quality coach transportation), and to experience the town and the atmosphere you need more than a day. 2-3 days is best. You can hike and raft in the area in the summer and ice skate in the winter.
Thanks again, Karen! I’d recommend a visit to Prague…it is a gorgeous city! When you come, let us know :).
Awesome post – and an awesome city! I just wanted to add an extra plug for Kutna Hora – my friend and I went there on a day trip from Prague, and it’s totally worth the trip. The bone church is fascinating and the reason most people go, but the town itself is just lovely, and definitely worth checking out. The Cathedral of St. Barbara is beautiful!
Kash – thanks for the hostel recommendation in Cesky Krumlov, You’re right it does appear to have a fairy tale like quality from the photos.
Megan – thanks for Facebook mention. Yes Czech Inn gets consistently high guest ratings but certainly doesn’t sounds like a the normal hostel.
Carla – thanks for Cathedrl of St Barbara tip.
