The Channel Island of Jersey: Perfect for walking
Written by Karen Bryan
The Channel Island of Jersey is perfect for walking as there are miles of green lanes and footpaths. When I was in Jersey in May 2010, I went on a Walking in Jersey guided walk with Remi Couriard, a Blue Badge guide. Our five mile circular walk was “Spring Colour in St Lawrence”. Our first stop was in St Lawrence Church to admire the stained glass windows.

Then we made our way down an old coffin route down into a green valley where some fields were planted with Jersey Royal potatoes.

Remi had obtained permission to visit the some private gardens.

We had a brief stop at Jersey War Tunnels where there was a cafe and toilets.

There were some beautiful rhododendrons in full bloom along the sides of the lanes.

Next it was a look at Morel Farm owned by the National Trust for Jersey. The stone arch into the property is dated 1666. You can’t get into the farmhouse, only in the outbuildings where there’s a granite cider press and crusher.

Remi was a wonderful guide, he’s so knowledgeable about all aspects of life on Jersey. He’s a man of many talents, he’s a furniture designer and he was instrumental in setting up the Flicks at Jersey War Tunnels a twice monthly evening screening of classic movies and vintage shorts in the entrance to the War tunnels.
Walking in Jersey is one of the best ways to explore this beautiful island. You can get some ideas for Jersey walks from the links below.

Remi.
Still receiving good feed back from your article in May.
I have started to use “Face Book and Twitter” for promotion for the “Flicks” with Jersey War Tunnel Cine. Brings in the people!
Remi…
Remie – Good to hear that the May article is attracting readers. The film screenings at the Jersey War Tunnels are a good idea and give visitors another evening activity when so many attractions are only open during the day.
