Review of Park Grand Hotel Paddington London
Written by Karen Bryan
I stayed at the Park Grand Hotel London Paddington for one night in March 2010, on a complimentary basis arranged by lastminute.com. The four star hotel is a ten minute walk from Paddington rail and underground station. It’s five stops on the Bakerloo Line from Paddington to Oxford Circus, with a journey time of around 15 minutes. The hotel is located in an attractive residential area opposite a garden square.

I was in a junior suite, room 422. What I loved most about the room was the abundance of natural light through the three large windows which overlooked the garden square.

There were carnations in the room, I think that fresh flowers in a hotel room is a lovely touch. The underfloor heating in the tiled shower room was much more pleasant that that chilling sensation of bare feet on cold tiles. The tea and coffee making facilities were in a cupboard along with fridge, safe, ironing board, microwave and hanging space. The room had a spacious seating area with a sofa and two chairs, a flat screen TV with satellite channels and a pull down work station.
Guests receive free wifi and wired internet connection in their rooms. I had an very good wifi signal in my room and the wired connection was excellent. With many hotels charging an additional £10 to £15 for 24 hours internet access, this is a real benefit.
Breakfast consisted of a hot buffet, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, fruit juice, cereals, cheese, ham, breads and croissants. My scrambled egg tasted as though it had been sitting on the hot plate for a while. The breakfast was adequate but there’s been a wider selection of fresher food on offer in other 4 star hotels in which I’ve stayed. The hot/cold buffet area was pretty small, I reckon that only 2 guests could stand there at a time, so if it was busy there could be quite a queue. There was an alcove opposite with cereals, bread and croissants.
I felt that the seating in the breakfast room was a bit cramped and that as you got up from the table you were in danger of bashing into the table next to you.

The reception, housekeeping and restaurant staff were all eager to assist and doing their best to fulfil guests needs with a smile.
I was shown around all types of room in the hotel which include single rooms, standard double and twins and club rooms. There are some rooms which have rear courtyard views and are a lot less spacious than the room in which I stayed but they are all decorated and equipped in a similar style (although only junior suites have a microwave).
I’d highly recommend the Park Grand Hotel London Paddington if you want to stay in a comfortable, well equipped room in a peaceful location that is still easily accessible to central London. It’s such a bonus to have a London hotel offering free wifi and in room wired internet access.
