How Cheap is Your Airline?
Written by Andy Hayes
Ryanair, everyone’s favourite European airline (tongue-in-cheek) has decided that they will go ahead with plans to charge £1 to use the toilets in flight. Civil Aviation Authorities here in the UK have ruled the change in policy isn’t against the law. Ryanair have already been criticised for additional fees and charges such as the £5 per person per flight payment admin fee (unless you pay by Mastercard prepaid debit card) and the £5 per person per flight online check in fee (not charged on some promotional fares). But really, isn’t charging for use of toilets all going a little too far?

For me, I really prefer to pay my fare and know that my costs are covered – but this whole business of charging for every little service or convenience has gone too far. Hell, even American Airlines is charging $8 for a blanket as as you’ll see from the commentary, their blankets aren’t even that nice anyway!
I’ve personally had enough. My tip is to book with an airline who can offer a reasonably priced fare that includes a fair range of amenities without having to swipe your credit card just to get out of your seat in flight. And if I can’t get that, I’ll just take the train. Or maybe not go a

I’ve never even flown RyanAir…I find flying really stressful as it is, and am willing to pay more to make the experience as calm and easy as possible. Digging for more cash at every turn of the voyage does not qualify as calm for me. I get Lufthansa whenever I afford it!
Surely this is an April fool, Andy, except it’s not April! I can hardly believe it and I’m sure that if Ryanair’s potential customers find there is any truth in the rumour, their sales will be going down the toilet too.
I’d heard about this and thought it was a publicity stunt, but if they’re really doing it… well I will not fly Ryan Air any more. It’s discrimination against those with small bladders.
In fact, I have not been on a low cost flight since my last RyanAir experience was so terrible I never wanted to fly again!
Oh my, I think it’s another money-making scheme. I hope this won’t push through.
Yeah I agree with you leisha, they’re going a bit overboard. Poor passengers.
As a mom often travelling with two young kids, I find this ridiculous. Parents get to pay for the pleasure of changing a diaper in those horrible bathrooms? I have never liked Ryan Air and never plan on flying with them again, but this really takes the cake.
What if I decided to pee in a bottle within the cabin instead. Would that be illegal !?!
