Brussel's Grand-Place, with Le Roy d'Espagne the main building visible.

What most appeals to me about Belfast is the strong polar opposites in its cultural mix, that surely no other city in the British Isles can match. So first and foremost I would visit the political/ideological/philosophical/theological divide of Shankhill to see the murals and try to get a feel for the place and people that have so shaped recent history. Not the most holiday like of ideas perhaps, but a great way to get to the heart of the island and so to enjoy it and its people all the more.

Ooooh - that's the Grand Place in Brussels, a great place to explore after some moules frites and a fantastic Belgian beer!

What most appeals to me about Belfast? I am a brand new UK resident and despite tons of trips to the UK, I've never been north of Oxford! A shame really, and one of my New Year's resolutions is to explore the lovely country that I'm lucky enough to call home and heading to Belfast would be the perfect start to achieving that goal!

It's a photo of Brussels

I've only been to Belfast once and that was to rescue my stricken father who'd broken both his arms on a visit (somebody had opened a car door into him as he walked on a pavement).
What a saw of it was beautiful but I's love to go back and see it this time.

I probably won't invite my dad though, his luck is probably better left at home.

Gee Karen, this is not easy, you guys write about so many great places. I would have guessed Munich had i not properly read that it's a european CAPITAL city - so my next guess is Vienna. I couldn't find any real clues in your twitters or in the photo itself!! Ugh. I would love to win. WHY? I would love to win a trip to Belfast because the Tuscan sun is getting to my brain, and I have heard that it is cold and rainy there ;-).

Brussels is the location.

I visited Belfast in 1987 when the City was still divided by sectarian troubles. It was a moody place, and I was taken aback, naively I suppose, at being searched whilst entering shops and tourist attractions. However, I found the people welcoming and always remember a visit to The Crown Bar in Great Victoria Street, which was an outstanding blaze of reds and yellows, mosaic tiles and wood carvings, nothing like I'd ever seen before or since.
I would love to return to Belfast to see the vibrant and passionate city it is now- and make a return trip to The Crown Bar.

Answer is the Grand Place in Brussels.

Would love to visit Belfast - largely to dispose of the preconceived ideas I have about it as I've only ever seen coverage of the conflicts on TV. I've heard that it is actually a vibrant and buzzing city so it would be fantastic to discover that for myself.

Also I have 2 small kids so a weekend without them would be pure bliss - and to stay in a fabulous hotel and eat fabulous food would be amazing!
