Review of Hotel Condal, Girona, Spain
Written by Karen Bryan
I needed a cheap place to stay in Girona for a couple of nights in December 2009 between my trip to Brussels and the start of the Blog Trip in Barcelona. I wanted a value for money hotel with a central location which accepted late check ins (as I was due in Girona around midnight) and offered free wifi.
There was only real one contender the Hotel Condal at 39 euro a night. It was a 10 minute walk both from the railway station and the old town, had 24 hour reception and free wifi. Other hotels I found during my search charged a lot more per night, were located outside the city centre and charged for wifi.
I discovered how friendly the staff are before my arrival when I got in a muddle over my arrival time and the receptionist was so polite with me during our email exchange.
My single room was comfortable, clean and had a reasonable wifi signal. The main problem I had was external traffic noise from a crossroads close to the hotel which disturbed my sleep. This is partly because I live in a very quiet area so am very aware of traffic noise. I couldn’t manage to have a shower without soaking the bathroom floor as the shower curtain didn’t seem to do its job very effectively. However I just mopped up the spillage with the bath mat.
There’s a residents lounge on the first floor which has a hot drinks and snack vending machine.
Overall I was happy with my stay at the Hotel Condal. It offered me what I needed at a reasonable price.
