Back to the Stone Age at Lake Constance

Since my mother-in-law’s just moved to live close to the Bodensee or Lake Constance as we English-speakers translate, I have been looking up all the sights that I missed exploring properly on my last trip. One of these which intrigues me greatly is the Pfahlbau Museum or Lake Dwelling Museum, on the German side of the lake near Unteruhldingen, which promises to teach you “everything you’ve always wanted to know about the Stone Age”.

I saw it from the shore last time but didn’t have time to go in – but I could see the stilt houses which are reconstructions of stone and bronze age dwellings, and it’s certainly something different. Inside you can find archaeological finds from the area and there are demonstrations showing what life was like way back then.

It’s just €7 for adults, and during winter is mostly open on weekends plus some guided tours on weekdays at particular times – check their website for exact details.
