No Winter Blues, Mission Iceland: The Castings Party Reykjavik Art Museum

Written by Karen Bryan

On 21 October there was a big party in Reykjavik, Iceland to start the selection process to find 100 lucky Icelanders to take a free trip to the Spanish Canary Islands in November 2009. The Mission Iceland phase of the “We Share our Fortune, Operation No Winter Blues” had arrived in Reykjavik. I was there on a press trip to report on the proceedings..

The previous day 100 orange clad Canarian Ambassadors had hit the streets of Reykjavik, literally stopping the traffic, handing their messages in bottles, inviting Icelanders to come along to the party if they’d like to put themselves up for the expenses paid trip to enjoy some Winter sun in the Canaries, becoming Icelandic Ambassadors for the Canary Islands.

I spoke to two of the Canarian Ambassadors and two of the Icelandic hopefuls at the party.

If you were at the Say no to Winter Blues Icelandic Castings Party in Reykjavik, please leave a comment to tell us about your experience there.

  1. I went there and what can I say, a lack the vocabulary to describe how much fun this night was. It felt like everybody had met before and already everybody knew each other.

Everybody from canari islands that I met was amazing.

    This was legendary.

    Iceland loves Canari islands

  2. Aaron – It’s great to hear that the party was such a positive experience for you. Let me know if you are one of the 100 Icelanders chosen for the trip to the Canaries.

  8. Hey there! I was at the party and it was amazing!
The day before I was just sitting in front of my computer at work when your people in the orange coats came knocking on the windows, smiling and waving. Then they came inside and offered me and my co-worker to come to the No winter blues party. I got a VIP ticket and took my friend with me. We skipped a salsa dancing lesson we were supposed to be having this wednesday, but we really didn´t know what to expect. When we got the party we were SO HAPPY to have skipped the salsa lesson because this party was SO good! You canarians are so friendly and everybody were so happy :) The casting was really fun, but stressful too ;) I´ll always remember this evening with a smile on my face!
Thanks for inviting us to your party and giving us the chance to visit your beautiful canary islands. Hope you had great time in Iceland :)
    Best saludo! ;)

  9. Hey, I’ve heard that the lucky ones have already recieved an email explaining everything about the trip, the coming day they’ll have more information about it all.

  10. Sigdís – Sounds like you made a wise decision to skip the Salsa lesson and go to the No Winter Blues party.

Joy – thanks for letting us know that the fortunate 100 Icelanders have been chosen.
