Abi of Inside the Travel Lab suggests checking out Caerphilly Castle - a short trip from Cardiff. It’s rugged, it has a leaning tower and the whole complex is HUGE.

Renato of RunAbroad.com suggests you walk,cycle or (even better) run part of the Taff Trail between the Cardiff waterfront at Cardiff Bay and Brecon. The fist few miles after the castle are simply amazing.
