My Favourite European Waterfalls
Written by Andy HayesWho doesn’t love a good waterfall? So here is a photo essay featuring my favourite waterfalls in Europe.

Kilt Rock Waterfall, Scotland (by Start Again)

Rhine Falls, Germany (by Stephenhanafin)

Cascata delle Marmore, Italy (by Lanci Danielle)

Steinsdalfossen, Norway (by doegox)
What’s your favourite waterfall in Europe?

I was at Kilt Rock last week, sadly after a dry summer it wasn’t so impressive. My favourites are all in Iceland, and of those, Godafoss probably just pips Gullfoss for me.
Andy – I love the Falls of Braan at The Hermitage near Dunkeld in Perthshire:

and the Krka Falls in Croatia:

All great waterfalls but I prefer the ones on a human scale , that you can have to yourself because they’re off the beaten track and local … being not far from where I live in Derbyshire these are ideal for cooling off should we get another heat wave … http://www.skylarkholidays.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=152&catid=55
Rachel – the time of year and amount of rainfall make a tremendous difference to waterfalls. I haven’t been to Iceland but I’m sure that the waterfalls there must be spectacular.
Paul – I know what you mean about prefering less well known waterfalls, it’s more enjoyable if you are not elbow to elbow with other visitors. Thanks for the link to the Derbyshire waterfalls.
There are many waterfalls which are gorgeous both in their full-flow and the “dry” season. Makes me want to visit many places twice!

Waterfalls are quite mesmerising and do seem to have a different character each time you visit, depending on weather, amount of water etc.. I’ve been to Krimml Falls in Austria and it is a superb triple waterfalls that suits the alpine setting.
These last weeks the waterfalls here on Madeira Island are spectacular.

Don – thanks for your links to waterfalls on the island of Maderia.
Keith – thanks for your suggestions of UK waterfalls. I love the Mo’ness Falls near Aberfeldy in Perthshire Scotland.
