Day Trips from Athens – Ancient Corinth
Written by Marcus CederstromJust west of Athens on the Peloponnesus lies Corinth. Korinthos. Today, there exists two cities. The first a modern port city that gives off a dirty industrial vibe, and the second an ancient Greek city.
Ancient Corinth is just a couple of miles from the modern city and out of the two is definitely the city you should choose to visit. Ruins from the ancient history of Corinth still stand and the area is deemed an archeological site which is still being excavated.

The Temple of Apollo was built in the 6th century BC. Over two thousand years later, seven columns of the Temple still stand despite earthquakes that destroyed much of the rest of the city and surrounding buildings.

During the summer months (which, according to the Hellenic Ministry of Culture, runs from the 10th of April through the 31st of October) the archeological site is open from 8:30 in the morning until 8 in the evening. You’ll have to pay a few Euros, but the price is well worth it and Corinth is a perfect day trip from Athens.
