Manchester: Up and Coming or Already There?

Written by Andy Hayes

There seems to be plenty of talk these days about Manchester being an ‘up and coming’ destination. I’m not so sure that’s true – to me, I think it’s already there. With some great dining options and a social scene that has expanded beyond the city’s roots as a clubbing hot spot, there are plenty of reasons to head down to Manchester these days. Here are just a few:

Manchester: Up and Coming or Already There?

Curry Mile. This is first on my list because if I only could go one place in Manchester, it would be curry mile. With a garish lineup of neon signs and both modern and less-than-shiny venues, this is a great stop for any Indian cuisine lover. Check out the Rusholme Curry website for details.

Canal Strolls. Like much of the UK, Manchester has its fair share of canals – leftovers from the days of water-based industrial transport. As the city centre is transformed into a living and working location, more and more of these canals have been upgraded with perfectly lovely walking paths, benches, etc.

Shopping. While you’ll find many of your standard high street shopping throughout town, I do enjoy the Victorian-esque ambience of The Triangle. But there’s also Barton Arcade and Affleck’s Palace to keep those shopping bags full (and wallets empty!).

Now, don’t get me wrong – Madchester still holds strong to its many nightclubs and late night fun, not to mention football. But there are more and more everyday to make the jaunt to Manchester.

Have you been to Manchester lately? Up and coming or already there?
