Fishermen’s Bastion in Budapest gave me great memories
Written by Amanda Kendle
Hot chocolate in Budapest. It’s a bit of a random thought but this week I was honestly discussing which cafes we’ve visited that were the most scenic, and I suddenly remembered a great experience in Budapest.

I spent a day exploring the Castle Hill area of Budapest – it’s on the western side of the city, in other words, “Buda” – where you can see the Royal Palace, the Matthias Church and the Fishermen’s Bastion – all historic sites with photo-worthy architecture and interesting tales to discover.

But the highlight was the cafe “under” the Fishermen’s Bastion – I decided at the time the entrance fee to be able to walk across the top was too high, and being a cold day I thought I’d rather spend the money on a hot chocolate. The bonus was that sitting in the cafe gave us access to fantastic views across the Danube to the “Pest” side of the city, and we could sit in the midst of the historic architecture and spend a relaxing hour there. It’s one of the many experiences that made me a big fan of Budapest.

Amanda – never mind the hot chocolate, that cake/pastry looks pretty yummy too.
Budapest is yet another addition to my “would love to visit” list.
Good point, Karen – but the cake mustn’t have been too great because I don’t remember the taste of it, I just remember the great hot chocolate and the fantastic view! You should definitely put Budapest high on your to-visit list, it’s a really enjoyable/multi-faceted city.
Budapest been on my wish list for a while, I really should try and get some cheap flights soon. It must be great in Spring/ early summer.
