Day Trips from London: Exploring Windsor
Written by Andy Hayes
Last time I was in London, we finally decided to go exploring some sights outside the city, and one of our favourites was Windsor Castle:

Windsor Castle is the largest inhabited castle in the world, and it’s a gorgeous site. The stunning experience starts right as you depart the train from London, as Windsor station is an adorable station with a mini-shopping mall extending out from it. Full of boutiques topped with a few kitsch souvenir shops, it’s a great start/finish to the day.
The castle tour is extensive (including the audio tour) and really fascinating, including the views of surrounding countryside, the church, and other interior rooms. Leave a couple of hours to explore it fully so you don’t feel rushed.
Be sure to poke around in Windsor itself. We had a fantastic meal just down the street across from the castle, and you’ll want to make sure to have room for dessert — Eton Mess is a popular one, named after the nearby college. It’s a melange of strawberries, meringue, and cream. Absolutely fantastic, and some of the best you can get you’ll find here in Windsor.

Hi Andy .. thanks for the info on Windsor .. I’d love to go sometime .. we must have gone there as kids from nearby Woking .. but I don’t remember – we did go to Windsor pantomime one year – that I remember!! I have cousins who live there .. so I must take advantage of their nearness to the castle and the town.
One of my favorite visits in England was to Windsor, it was lovely in the spring. It was also the first time I had a cream tea, a wonderful discovery:)
Dian – glad to hear that you enjoyed Windsor. Cream teas are a wonderful (occasional) indulgence.
