Great tips, and especially the Jewish Museum is absolutely worth a visit - along with the Anne Frank Museum in Amsterdam it rates as one of my favourite museums in the world - the design and building is just as much a part of the experience as the exhibitions.

Heather - I visited the Holocaust |Memorial when I was in Berlin last February. I found it quite haunting and very disturbing. As I wandered up and down the concrete blocks I tried to imagine who I'd feel If I was being herded into a gas chamber. I also thought If I'd been a German would I have had the moral courage to stand up and protest at what was happening to Jews. I don't think I can truthfullly answer that question unless I was in that situation.

I have to say Berlin is absolutely outstanding. My finance and I spent a few days there last year and were absolutely memorised by the blend of new developments (particular around the Reichstag building).

What I especially liked about the Holocaust memorial is how large it was and how open it was to interpretation is was. There was no queue, no rules or indeed security to tell you you couldn't sit on the blocks or indeed take photos, and it was a great place to reflect.

I think I've just talked myself into booking a flight back over there!

Great post Heather.
