Touch the bishop’s big toe to make your wish come true
Written by Karen Bryan
If you want your wish to come true you need only touch the big toe of Bishop Grgur sculpture in the royal town of Nin in Zadar region of Croatia.

Me making my wish
You’ll observe that his big toe is very shiny due to stroking by wish makers.
Bishop Grgur from Nin fought for the right for clerics to use the Croatian language, as opposed to Latin, during the 10th century. The sculpture is pretty large and imposing as he wields his bible and adopts his preaching pose.

Nice pic, Karen – you’re looking quite smug :)
Andy – I think I just look as if I’m having a good rtme and getting in the spirit of the wishing tale. Thanks to Nell Nelson for taking the photo.
Ooh, I tried too. But it was bang in the middle of tourist season, I don’t think it registered :)
Neha – maybe Bishop Grgur’s big toe gets overloaded with wishes in the high season. Perhaps he’ll make my wish come true as it was a quiet day in early April.
