I’m visiting the Zadar/Sibenik region of Croatia from 1 – 5 April on a press trip hosted by the Croatian National Tourist Office, Zadar County Tourist Board and Ryanair.

I’ll be in the inaugural Ryanair Edinburgh to Zadar flight on 1 April. I’m really looking forward to visiting three of the national parks, Paklenica, popular with rock climbers and where there have been sightings of bears, Kornati Islands, an archipeligo of 140 islands and the Krka Waterfalls.

I ‘ll spend time on the island of Pag renowned for it’s cheese and lamb, take the scenic coastal route to Biograd, visit Nin the oldest Croatian royal town and Sibenik with it’s beautiful seafront.

It’s amazing that I’ll be in Croatia again later in April, in the Istrian peninsula as a guest of the Istrian Tourist Board. I’ve read that Croatia is a top destination this year, partly as it’s good value as they haven’t adopted the Euro yet. It’s also becoming easier to reach Croatia with an increase in routes by low cost airlines. However from what I’ve read and seen in photos it’s the natural beauty which attracts me.

  1. I think you’re spot on, Karen – natural beauty is the top part of Croatia for me. So many amazing places, very photogenic, and not just the coastline either. I’m jealous that you’ll get 2 trips there this year!

  2. Amanda – I’m delighted that I’ll have an opportunity to see two different parts of Croatia fo rmyself next month. I have to say that I’ve been inspired to visit Croatia by reading Jason’s posts so the blog is achieving it’s aim even for the editor,

  4. Hilary – yes I think I will have a lot to write about after my trip to the Zadr/Sbenik region.

  5. Karen, how wonderful! April is a lovely time to be in Croatia. Maybe we can connect when you get here :)

  6. Neha – I think that April will be ideal for me as I don’t like it too hot and burn pretty easily. Email me abour meeting up but not sure how much free time I’ll have as itinerary is quite loaded.

  7. We had a lovely family holiday on the island of Rab a few years ago with some friends renting an apartment through the internet. We flew Ryanair to Rijeka but I think they’ve now abandoned that flight unfortunately.

There were hardly any Brits there – mainly Italians & Germans.

Croatia is also a fantastic coastline to see by boat with loads of marinas in beautiful locations or just rocky bays were you can moor for the night. That’s the way I’d love to explore it next time.

  8. Heather – some Ryanair destinations do come and go which can be annoying if you really like a destination for holidays or even worse if you have purchased a a holiday home near that airport.

Seeing the Croatin coastline by boat would be a grreat way to tour.

  9. Good tip about Croatia not adopting the Euro. I’ve been thinking about visiting for a few years, but now might be areally good time.

  10. Clive – the currency in Croatia is the Kuna which today is valued at 1 Kuna = 0.12 British Pound.

Yes do go to Croatia this year.
