Arts and crafts of every age and kind in Hamburg
Written by Amanda Kendle

There are numerous reasons to visit Germany’s great northern city of Hamburg, but one that I only found by accident while I was there last is the Museum fuer Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum of Art and Craft. It’s the kind of museum which is interesting whether you’re deeply interested in art or not, so if you end up in Hamburg on a rainy day like I did, I encourage you to step inside.
This museum has a bit of everything: ancient Egyptian stoneware and statuettes, Chinese artifacts from 1500 BC, works from Middle Ages craftsmen, a huge photography collection and displays of over 400 musical instruments and thousands of rare books, just to cover some of it. That means that whatever your particular interests, there’s bound to be a section that interests you. Personally, I spent most of a day there and would love to go back.
Entrance is reasonable at 8 euros; if you get a Hamburg Card it drops to 5 euros. Remember the museum is closed on Mondays but otherwise it’s open from 11am to 6pm every day, with most Wednesdays and Thursdays having late opening until 9pm.

i found “Speicherstadtmuseum” a bit more interesting, because it has its focus more on Hamburg itself, not so much on art & crafts. and its ony 3 Euros :D
Daniel – thanks for your comment and for the tip.
