The Falls of Braan, The Hermitage, Scotland
Written by Karen BryanThe Falls of Braan are at The Hermitage in Perthshire. The wooded area is sigmposted off the A9, just north of the Dunkeld exit. There are several marked walks through the woods.

The Falls of Braan looking toward Ossian’s Hall
One of the best spots for viewing the Falls of Braan is Ossian’s Hall, an 18th century folly creaded by the Duke of Atholl, perched above the Falls of Braan. The Hall has been recently renovated by the National Trust for Scotland with the addition of glass door at the entrance to the semi circular viewing area. I’m not a fan of the new colour scheme and wall murals in the interior of Ossian’s Hall.

I love visiting The Hermitage, it’s beautiful at any time of year.

The Falls of Braan in Autumn
Have you visited the Falls of Braan?

Am hoping to visit the area in October/November. Wish to see the salmon returning to spawn. Is it possible to witness this event at this location. Look forward to hearing from you.
Hilda – I am sure that you will really enjoy your visit to Perthshire. I’ve never seen salmon at the Falls of Braan, the fish ladder at Pitlochry, north of Dunkeld, is probably the best place to try.
Briefly visited this with my dad on the way to being taken back to boarding school, is an utterly beautiful place. my dad and his friends once jumped off the top of the waterfall in their youth, and was suprised by how much more powerful it is now than it was. been once, hoping to visit again soon and want to show my partner it :D
Josh – I love the Falls of Braan, it’s beautiful at any time of year. We’ll have a a stop there on our way to the Enchanted Forest lights show near Pitllchry next month. Hope you manage to visit soon, as I’m sure that your partner will love it too.
Visited, from Australia, March ’09. Absolutely magical, speechless. Unfortunately some poor buggar’s dog fell into the torrent. The Highland Rescue came but the doggy was swirling round in the waters, dead. Can’t believe the guy didn’t go after it. When I look at my photos now, thats what I remember. Shame.
Julie – Good to hear that you were enchanted by the Falls of Braan. I I’ve visited many times and still love it. Perhaps it was sensible for the owner not to attempt to rescue their dog, I have read several times about owners dying during rescue attempts.
