At last England hsd taken on board Europe a la Carte’s recent advice to get some decent flags erected at the A1 Border crossing layby.

The previous flags were best described as tatty tea towels hanging by a thread, so I’m glad to see that there are now three decent flags to welcome travellers to England.

It was a sorry state of affairs when a mobile cafe in the Border layby was sporting a better flag than the official flag poles.

It’s reassuring to know that the English tourism authorities are reading Europe a la Carte and acting on good advice. Tourism is a big earner for the UK and many visitors like to stop and take photos at the Border crossing, so tatty flags don’t exactly promote a good image in their holiday photos.
