Now I have to admit some bias here, as although I’m Scottish, I’m from the East Coast and there’s always been a bit of rivalry between Glasgow on the west coast of Scotland and Edinburgh on the east coast. Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland but Glasgow is the largest city. Guess what, I prefer Edinburgh for it’s architecture and beautiful geographic location with it’s volcanic peak Arthur’s Seat in Holyrood Park and the coastal views to the Forth Estuary. Glasgow is renowned for shopping and nightlife, neither of which is of interest to me.
However there’s much more to see in Scotland than the two major cities. I’d always advocate venturing, even slightly, off the beaten track and visiting smaller cities such as Dundee and Perth.
What’s your opinion? Have you visited Glasgow, would you rate it as a global top ten city?

It isn’t my first chioce but Glasgow does have some interesting characteristics (like their accent).
It can’t be all bad as Glasgow has been nominated as the third UNESCO City of Music: http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/News/Archives/2008/August/UNESCO+City+of+Music.htm
Andy, everyone likes specific cities for their own personal reasons and I’m not dissing Glasgow, I’m merely saying I prefer Edinburgh.
