Anna - I agree it's hard to come out with overall favourites. I loved Rome but we were there for our 20th wedding anniversary. I love Edinburgh too. I'm veering toward Italy as my favourite country too.

Happy Hotelier - I've never been to Vienna but my husband has and he said it was beautiful, perhaps I''ll get there soon as Ryanair are now flying from Edinburgh to Bratislava.

Having a lot of fun thinking about this one. Although it's actually quite difficult to separate out the city from the experience you have there and your state of mind at the time. For example, Barcelona sticks out in my mind as a fantastic city, but that is probably because it was my first weekend away with my husband without our 2 children, so we had a weekend devoted to each-other, sampling tapas & beer and enjoying a city.

As for favourite country, that's quite hard, but on balance I would have to say Italy. Great wine, fabulous food and lots of piazzas where you can sit and watch the world go by..... And a better climate that the UK!
