Autumn colours at The Hermitage, Dunkeld, Perthshire, Scotland
Written by Karen BryanWe spent a couple of days in Perthshire from 18 – 20 October 2008 hoping to see the beautiful Autumn colours. We were lucky with our timing and did catch some stunning colours especially at The Hermitage in Dunkeld.
The Hermitage was created as a landscape garden by the Duke of Atholl, complete with two follies, Ossian’s Hall and Ossian’s Cave. The Hermitage is now owned by the National Trust.
There’s a large car park at The Hermitage with charges unless you’re a National Trust Member. It’s a short, level walk from the car park to the Falls of Braan.
If you want to do a longer walk there’s a circular walk to the nearby town of Dunkeld.

gorgeous, karen! thanks for sharing!
Yes Jessie it was lovely
I love this area in the autumn – absolutely stunning. Pitlochry also has so many well-marked and lovely walks.
I’m going Nov 1st but it looks like with the winds might be a bit late for the leaves. Will enjoy the enchanted forest nonetheless.
That’s a coincidence, Andy, as my husband originallly suggested going to Perthshire the first weekend in November but I had day job commitments that weekend so we went 18 – 20 October, which we thought might be too early but with this wind, maybe we did time it right.
We were at Pitlochry too walking around Loch Faskally.
Awesome pictures Karen!! thank you for sharing your wonderful experience, hope to enjoy that charming place soon.
