Ellen - I think that you'll really enjoy a day trip to Pula. It will give you a taste of Croatia and I have a suspicion that you'll be keen to visit Croatia for longer. I spent 4 days just in Istria and didn't see everything.

Thank you for this information on Pula. We will be traveling to Italy next summer for one month. I am interested in ferrying across to Croatia just to touch the homeland of my grandmother who came to America in 1919. The shortest ferry ride is from Venice to Pula and I was wondering if that daytrip journey would give us a good 'feel' for Croatia. I plan to return another time to really explore the country, but for now, while so close in Italy, just wanted to see it. I think a good day of walking around the ruins and getting a bit to eat would be great. Thanks again. Ellen
