Scandinavian Airlines offer free 5 day Island Hopper pass
Written by Karen Bryan
SAS have flights from London to Stockholm from £56 and if you arrive during August you qualify for a free 5 day Island Hopper tickets which allows unlimited travel on the ferries of the Stockholm Archipelago. The Hopper Ticket usually costs 340 SEK around £28.
I did a search for availability of the offer price flights departing London on 20 August 2008 and returning on Monday 25 August. The price was £125 for the return flight. However I looked on the Ryanair site for flights on these dates and found a Ryanair flight to Stockholm for around £50 but you have to consider the airports used and the time and expense getting too and from the airport.
It just highlights that you shouldn’t be too impressed when you see a special offer, it’s always worth spending some time looking at alternatives but do weigh up factors such as convenience too.

and I’d be careful with SAS, as they are grumbling about a strike. They were on strike last year, but the fact that Lufthansa is striking right now seems to inspire them to possibly strike again.
I’d say fly with either Ryanair or Sterling!
Thanks for the warning, you’d imagine that I national carrier would more more reliable, it just goes to show. Perhaps Ryanair staff have to sign a no strike clause or are sacked if they go on strike?
Speaking of strikes is the bus strike in Sweden over now?
Oh yes, buses are back to normal – I posted an updated on that blog entry. And as far as I know, Ryanair staff are not unionized, so they’re not allowed to strike.
And regarding that 5 day Archipelago pass, some hotels will give it as part of their special offers, the problem in Sweden is that you always have to remind and ask the front desk people, otherwise you won’t get anything, even if it’s included in your deal.
