Lesbians don’t have to be residents of Lesbos

Residents of the Greek island of Lesbos have lost their legal battle to restrict the use of the word Lesbian to residents of the Lesbos. Some local residents felt that the island was being brought into disrepute by the use of the term to describe gay women which originates from the love poetry of the Lesbos inhabitant the ancient Greek poetess Sappho.

Not all locals are negative about the Lesbian issue as it does bring more gay tourists to the island. I think it was much ado about nothing and maybe a cunning ploy by the local tourist board to increase the profile of Lesbos?
