Your nephew would probably like Berwick. Haven have a holiday camp about 8 miles south of Berwick, Haggerston Castle, where you can camp. There would be lots for your nephew to do there and I think that there is a limited bus service to and from Haggerston to Berwick.

Hadrians Wall is at least 40 miles from Berwick, it’s west of Newcastle around Hexham area. I visited Hadrians Wall for first time this year and have to say wasn’t that impressed but it was a wet day, which probably influenced me.

I am looking for somewhere for my nephew and myself to go camping for a few days in August. Thought of Berwick because like you mention its on the East coast line and easy to get to.

Coastal walks sound fine.

How far is Hadrian’s wall from Berwick? That’s somewhere I’ve wanted to go.

Darren, I had a quick look for camp sites in Berwick but couldn’t find one that was near the train station or town centre. Most campsite appear to work on the premise that you’ll be coming by car. Haven have a site which is around 15 minute walk from train station but it’s only for caravans.

Berwick is on the main east coast line so easy to reach by train. As for what to do, there’s not much in town centre apart from a few pubs and restaurants. It depends who your travel companions will be, if they like coastal walks etc. There are local buses to do day trips other towns in the area.

Are they any camping sites in Berwick-upon-Tweed?

What is there to do there?

We are looking for a place to go in August, which is hassle free where public transport is concerned, taking a tent, and bits of equipment so we don’t want to be walking miles and miles from the train station.
