Sunset at Portobello beach, Edinburgh
Written by Karen BryanI was at Portobello beach earlier this week around 11pm hoping to taking photos of the illumination of Cockenzie Power Station as part of the 3 Harbours Festival taking place until Sunday 8 June 2008. However it wasn’t dark enough and I wasn’t close enough to get any decent shots of the illuminations. However there was a beautiful sunset in the other direction.
The light pollution detracts from the wonderful colours so I decided to crop another photo to get rid off this. I’m not sure which photo is better, what do you think?
Many visitors forget that Edinburgh has a seaside at Portobello. It’s well worth a trip to Portobello, which is easily reached by bus from the city centre. It’s one of my recommendations for getting off the beaten track in Edinburgh.

Hiya…lovely photos…i live right here on the beach since a year and love it. If anyone wants to pay a visit do it on the first edition of our local festival on the 6th september 2009. Its free aand right here on the beach! Keep updated by visiting Portyfestival.co.uk….
Nitrojen – thanks for your comment, you are lucky to live close to the beach. We had a walk at Portbello last week and it was looking lovely on a sunny afternoon. I don’t think I’ll make it to your festival on 6 September. You can email me nearer the time with iinformation about the festival and I’ll write a post about it for the blog.
I live right on the promenade too and have admired that view many a time. Looking forward to the Porty festival, have been away for a few months so am interested to see what’s on.
Denise – thanks for your comment, you are fortunate to live on Porty Prom. Unfortunately I leave for a few days in North Wales on 7 September so won’t be able to make it to Edinburgh for Porty Festival.
