I was incredulous when I read tip no 5 to “buy your sun cream in Winter when it is cheaper” in the “5 Top Tips for Proper Holiday Budgeting” by a leading UK debt counselling charity. Now the other four tips are pretty sensible e.g. shop around for the best deals and set aside a small amount of money from your monthly budget for your holiday spending fund.

  1. I think they should have expanded on it some more. Generally suncream is a little cheaper just after the summer holidays, around October time – Superdrug and Boots always sell their unsold batches cheaper during this period, or do 2 for 1 offers.

It’s not the silliest tip but sometimes with this “5 tips” posts some writers don’t go into too much detail.

  3. Darren, I found suncream factor 8 and 15 for £1 for 500ml in one of these £1 stores the week before I went on holiday. I’ve also seen offers such as 2 for 1 in the Summer when all stores are selling suncream. Therefore I stand by my statement that it is a one of the silliest holiday money saving tips I’ve read.
