Packing light is a good policy but it also depends on what type of trip you're going on.

For example for our week in Italy we took a travel kettle because we could then have cups of tea of coffee in our hotel room and fill a flask for having tea and coffee during our days out. It's not just the money that you save from having drinks in cafes, you can also have a drink at any spot with a view that you fancy.

Some people may want to take a selection of clothes and shoes to dress up for nights out. Families with babies and young kids may need to a a fair amount of luggage.
