Find hotels in Italy for 70 euros a night

We”re flying to Pisa for a seven night trip to Tuscany and Umbria the last week in May 2008. I want to stay at comfortable accommodation and pay an average of 70 euros, around £55 sterling or 108 US dollars for an ensuite double room including breakfast. The idea of our trip is to see some of the less well known areas and towns such as Lake Trasimeno, Gubbio, Spoleto and Arezzo so we’re hiring a car to get around.

Here are the hotels I’ve selected, all 3 or 4 star, found by using the HotelsCombined price comparison site which searches through more than 30 accommodation suppliers sites.

La Vela, Trasimeno though booking.com 60 euros
Class Hotel Terni through gtahotels 62 euros
Holiday Inn Perugia through venere 65 euros
Hotel Planet Arezzo through venere 59 euros
Hotel Villa Maya Pisa booked direct with hotel 74 euros
It does take a bit of time and effort to select hotels that fulful your criteria. I ordered my initial search on HotelsCombined by price but you have to watch out for booking fees, check the cancellation policy and if the rate includes breakfast. I then read a few user reviews just to check that the hotel doesn’t receive consistently low ratings and if I can find a cheaper rate on the hotels own website.
Those are pretty reasonable prices? How does that compare to self-catering with a Villa ?
Lissie, thanks for your comment. It’s pretty hard to compare hotel prices with self catering as it depends on the number of people in the party, a villa can be very reasonable if say 6 – 8 people share. You have to watch out for the prices which are quoted for self catering accommodation in Italy and there’s a 40 – 80 euro compulsory charge for final cleaning and as ever you have to ascertain if linen and fuel is included in price.
I’ve generally stayed at hotels as I often travel alone and even if my husband is with me, wer generally want to stay in one location and often you can only hire for one week Saturday to Saturday.
Hi , i have two little property in Florence , you have choose a really good website for price comparison, but i suggest to check not only the price…but the type of hotel , so if you want live the atmosphere of florence, i can suggest to try to sleep in typicall owned hotel.. you can have a really good surpise form indipendent hotel ….;)
