How to find the cheapest hotel rate

Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

I’ve been doing a lot of searching for accommodation in last few days. The best advice I can give is to use a hotel price comparison site like HotelsCombined and also check the price on the hotels own website. The HotelsCombined site searches the databases of over 30 accommodation suppliers to find the best price. The search results list hotels by price and you can read the hotel details and look at photos. If you already know the hotel at which you’d like to stay, you can click on the search by hotel option.

You should click on the rates to check the total price as some of the suppliers charge credit card fees, booking fees or quote taxes separately. You should also check the cancellation policy of each supplier. Many of the hotels don’t have reviews, so you may wish to do a separate search for reviews once you’ve narrowed down your possible accommodation,

Once you find a couple of hotels that fit your criteria for location, price, facilities etc and have reasonable reviews, you should also check the price on the hotels own websites. In my recent experience there have been a couple of instances when the hotels own website was cheaper, £2 (10%) cheaper but with breakfast included in the lower price at the Cairn Hotel in Edinburgh and 6 euros (10%) cheaper at the Intercity Hotel in Bremen for a guest aged 65+ who was booking a single room. Whereas there were savings for £19 (30%) to be found through HotelsCombined at the Generator Hostel in Berlin.

So I’m afraid there is still a bit of leg work to be done if you want to be sure of getting the best rate at your chosen hotel.
