UK boating holidays with Hoseasons

Written by Karen Bryan

If you’re thinking of a holiday in the UK, why not try a boating holiday? It’s generally the Norfolk broads which spring to find for this type of holiday but Hoseasons have plenty of other options such as the Union or Forth and Clyde Canal in Scotand, the Llangollen Canal in Wales, the Yorkshire Waterdays and the Oxford Canals.

Boats can sleep from 2 – 12 passengers and have all creature comforts such as flushing toilets and showers. You receive expert tuition before you take the helm and there are on board manuals to consult.

  1. Great tips! A while ago I saw a TV program where they travelled in the UK by boat. It seems like such a good way to travel… calm and peaceful. When travelling by boat, I can imagine you’ll have a lot of time for writing as well.

  2. Yes, a boating holiday does sound lovely, Erica. It not something I’ve done but hopefully will do it someday.

  3. Hi, I like your site. We’re going to Norfolk next month for a few days and I was wondering if you knew of any good boating holiday companies in that area? I’ve checked out this company but is I any good?

    Thanks, K

  4. Kassie great to hear that you like the site. I’m sorry but I don’t know much about boating in Norfolk.

  5. My family have just returned from a holiday on the Fens with Bridge Boatyard at Ely. It was fantastic.

For October, the weather was great, loads of sunshine, great towns like St Ives to visit. The boat was great, well maintained with radiator central heating. It was a true adventure.

It was the first time we have ever done locks and it was great fun, even getting soaaked through (the heavens opened as I was cranking a lock).

If you want a great holidy away from the crowds, try the Fens in October.

  6. John, thanks for telling us about your boating holiday, I think the weather in first half of October in the UK was better than in the Summer. Which company did you hire your boat with?

  7. I went with Hoseasens as we do every year.

Normally we go on the Norfolk Broads, hiring from Royalls of Wroxam through Hoseaens but this year we decided on a change and try Cambridge Fens instead booking a Sunray Cruiser from Bridge Boatyard at Ely again through Hoseasens. They are introducing narrowboats for 2010 so I understand from the 2009 brochure.

We have been using Hoseasens now for 10 years, always in October and have never had a bad week afloat.

Kassie I can recomend Royalls if you are going to Norfolk. They are the best of the Hoseasens fleet on the northern section. There oats are spot on and the boatyard is handy for the station too if youn travel by train.

  8. We always book with Hoseasons.

We have been to Norfolk for the last 10 years and always book Royalls of Wroxham whos boats are top notch.

Thbis year we fancied a change and opted for Cambridge again with Hoseasons.

I would reccomend Royalls to anyone. Some boatyards cater for the budget end so you get what you pay for but Royalls are the best boatyard on the Broads IMHO

If you book direct, they will put you on to Hoseasons as they only hire through them.
