Thanks for your comment, Julia, I'm now having to declare myself as an in-betweenie, after reading that there's no electricity or running water the park and I'm not keen on roughing it. I don't crave 5 star luxury either but I do like my basic creature comforts. I suppose the description "off the beaten track" can be applied at different levels. I really mean somewhere that's not overrun with hordes of tourist, not necessarily up a mountain.

Thanks for including my post in your carnival, Karen. Couldn't agree more that Gatlinburg is the antithesis of off-the-beaten-track. But I'm a firm believer in the possibility of finding something to discover in the tackiest and most over-run of places.

If you check out the accommodations I featured in the follow up story to Gatlinburg (http://www.gogirlfriend.com/reviews/gatlinburg-accommodations-2050 ) LeConte Lodge and what you can do there is just such a place.

And if you really need civilization, you can always pop into Gatlinburg...

Great Carnival - thanks again for the opportunity to participate!

Enjoy!
