April 2008 trip to Bremen and Hamburg
Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
I’ve booked my flight from Edinburgh to Bremen in north western Germany, one of the new Spring routes with Ryanair. The flight cost £42 return including taxes and fees for cabin baggage only, with online check in. There are only 2 flights per week on Sundays and Wednesdays so I decided to go for 4 nights from Wednesday to Sunday. The flight times are pretty good as I depart from Edinburgh at 11.30 arrive in Bremen at 14.10. My return flight departs from Bremen 18.15 and is due in Edinburgh at 18.50.
I always feel that Germany is rarely seriously considered as short break destination by we British. I was in Germany a couple of years ago in Lubeck and the Mecklebburg Vorpommern region in eastern Germany and to the Rhine Valley and I think Germany deserves to be on your “places to visit” list if you’re interested in history, culture or architecture.

I’ll spend three nights in Hamburg and the fourth night in Bremen. I’ll need to start doing some research into accommodation for my visit using HotelsCombined price comparison facility which searches more than 30 accommodation suppliers such as Bookings.com, HotelClub and Laterooms to find the best deal for you.

Update - Unfortunately I had to cancel my trip to Bremen and Hamburg due to pressure of work. However this post, “Things to do in Bremen” gives more information about the city.

Hi Karen! Hopefully you’ve seen my post on budget activities in Hamburg. If you have any other questions about the city, let me know. I lived there just last year! P.S. One thing not in my post which I would absolutely recommend is a visit to the Miniatur Wunderland. That place is simply amazing!

Thanks for directing me to your post. I think I’ll have to spend more than you did in Hamburg and I’ll need to pay for accommodation and I I definetly won’t pass for under 30 to eat cheaply at the university.

Thanks for the link, reminding me to update my post to explain that I had to cancel my trip to Bremen and Hamburg due to pressure of work (trying to combine my day job with runnign this blog and writing for Wandalust all gets too much sometimes).
