Karen, Id definately recommend going for the August Bank holiday weekend "Beatles Festival" . It promises to be something really special this year with bands playing at the entrance to the spectactular Kingsway tunnel (The old one facing St Georges Hall) Also half of the new development (The biggest of its kind under constuction in Europe) will be open followed by the rest a month later. Drop me a line before you go and ill be happy to make some recommendations, bars, restaurants etc.

I agree, Liverpool is an absolutely amazing city. I think it rivals any other major European city easily in terms of beauty. I tip it to be the next Barcelona. Theyre currently building a 1 billion pound development in the centre which will be finished in Sept, wait until you see it then. Ill certainly be visiting again...definately my favourite UK city.

It doesn't appear that there is any voting I read that each member of the EU can select a city in their country when it is their alloted year to host the event.
