Dunbar war memorial

I think that the war memorial in Dunbar, East Lothian stands in such a beautiful spot by the cliffside walk.

The First World War was one of the topics I studied in detail in History at High School and the work of WW1 poets such as Wilfred Owen and Sigfried Sasson. This made quite a lasting impression on me. Unfortunately the deaths of service personnel and civilians continues. It’s very depressing as those who fought in WW1 believed that the “Great War” would be the war to end all wars, if only that had been the case.

my two grand uncles are remembered on this monument,, as you say the best view, i love sitting and watching the sea looking past the stone towards the bass rock…..

  2. It’s so sad to hear that two of your great uncles died in WW1. We have twin sons who are 21 and I can’t imagine how I’d feel if one or both of them was killed in war.
