Restaurant review - Marshall Meadows Hotel, Berwick upon Tweed

Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

We had Sunday lunch today at the Marshall Meadows Hotel, just outside Berwick upon Tweed in north Northumberland. The hotel is a Georgian mansion set in it’s own grounds, east off the A1 about one mile north of the Berwick services. I thought it was one of the best Sunday lunches I’ve ever had and for only £10 per person for 3 courses followed by tea or coffee.

We sat in the upper part of the restaurant which has dark wood panelling a a bay window with views through the trees to the sea. There was a choice of five dishes for starter, main course and dessert. My starter was prawn and apple salad, the prawns were large and juicy and had finely chopped apple mixed through, beautifully presented with thin slices of apples surrounded the prawn and apple central mould. My husband had devilled meat salad, a variety of cold cooked meat in a mustard dressing. We both had the traditional roast beef for main course served with Yorkshire pudding, mixed roast vegetables and a selection of steamed vegetables. The sticky toffee pudding I had for dessert was rich and yummy. My husband’s apple tart was deep filled with thick slices of spicy apple sandwiched in light, crispy shortcrust pastry. You help yourself to coffee and tea in the beautiful lounge facing the rear woodland.

The food was good quality, plentiful and well cooked, served by friendly, polite staff in pleasant surrounded. Do book in advance, 01289 331133, as it’s very popular. Well worth planning Sunday day out around if you live in south east Scotland or north east England. If you live further afield, Laterooms have double or twin rooms at the Marshall Meadows for £80 a night.
