Review of wegolo - a budget airline comparison site

Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Wegolo.com is a budget airline price comparison site that finds the cheapest flights with the low cost carriers for you. I carried out several searches on the site and they did seem to come up with the cheapest flights. I liked the fact that they quoted the basic fare charged by the airline and the full price including taxes and other costs. The sting in the tail was the 14 euro (£10) per return journey handling fee which wasn’t mentioned until I arrived at the booking page. However it was clearly labeled as a separate charge and the total cost to be paid including the fee was given.

I know that the budget airlines don’t pay any commission to agents so this is why a fee is levied. I looked at some other fare comparison sites and they all appear to charge a fee, flight.co.uk charge a fee of £10 per return flight and ebookers.com charge a unspecified fee of up to £15 per passenger.

Whether it’s worth paying this fee depends on how complicated it would be to do your own search on the websites of several low cost airlines and if you are prepared to spend the time doing the research yourself. The beauty of wegolo becomes apparent if you live within reach of several airports as then you can easily and quickly compare fares with different airlines on different routes. For example you may find a outward cheap flight with Ryanair from Stansted to Rome and a cheaper flight and/or a flight at a more suitable time back with Easyjet to Luton.

One other useful feature of wegolo is the “Hot and Cold” search option where you enter the desired weather conditions of your destination, whether than be snow or sun and the results will show availability of flights to appropriate destinations over the coming four days.

Overall I’d say that wegolo is worth using if you want to carry out a fast, simple comparison of fares and times available from several airports and low cost carriers then paying the £10 handling fee could be negated by finding the cheapest fares with no hassle.
