Are you afflicted by terminal boredom?

You could well have had a touch of terminal boredom recently (hopefully not whilst reading this blog) on your return flight from your Summer holiday. Were you one of the contributors to a £250m spend by UK travellers on souvenirs purchased at your departure airport? We Brits spend an average of £25 on dubious souvenirs according to a survey carried out for Post Office Travel Services.
A retail expert, Professor Freathy of Stirling University, explains that once we finally make it through check in and security, we heave a sigh of relief, relax and are looking for something to do to pass the time, more open to spending, less price sensitive and looking for something on which to hang our happy holiday memories. All these sneaky shops that we walk past with their alluring displays manipulate our temporary vulnerabilities, offer escape from our terminal boredom and relieve us of our left over holiday currency.
I generally don’t purchase anything at airport shops as I think there are expensive and I prefer to get through to find a quiet seat to wait it out my flight call. However I’m not claiming I have never bought a kitschy souvenir, as I have my parrot handled mug from Tenerife, I can’t even plead temporary insanity as I bought it in a shop during my holiday. At least it was probably a quarter of the price there compared to an airport shop. I find my mug cheerful for my morning cup of tea.
What’s been your best or worst buy in the holiday souvenir department?
