The most disappointing tourist sites

A recent online opinion poll has placed Stonehenge as the most disappointing tourist site in the UK and the Eiffel Tower in the world. My main concern about this opinion poll was that the respondents had to make their choice between 24 attractions in the UK and 25 in the world. To my mind this whittling down of possible responses rather undermines the validity of the results. However I do wholeheartedly concur with the observation made by the spokeswoman of Virgin Travel Insurance who commissioned the survey, that “those looking for unexpected delights should opt for less mainstream destinations”. Perhaps those featured in Europe a la Carte?

On a positive note, Alnwick Castle in North Northumberland, close to my hometown of Berwick upon Tweed was named the UKs most promising not to disappoint.
