Flying more stressful than knifepoint mugging?

I was shocked to read that flying appears to be more stressful than being subjected to a knifepoint mugging.  Four volunteers making a return trip from London Heathrow to Amsterdam were kitted out with chest monitors to detect change in heart rate, arm pressure pads to measure change in blood pressure and fingertips sensors to measure change in physiological stress.  The experience of making this return trip lead to heart rates of four times normal resting levels and physiological levels of stress equivalent to a free fall parachute jumper!

How stressful do you find flying?

I find that incredibly hard to believe, after experienced an attempted mugging where the guy pretended to have a knife.

Mind you, I find with more flying hours clocked up, it makes me more aprehensive than before.

I suspect that the same experience have totally different effects on the stress levels of individuals. I do find flying pretty stressful, it’s mainly all the hanging around, delays, queues and then with the budget airlines the scrum to get on board.
