Alex Salmond, the Scottish First Minister, is to officially unveil “The Emigrants” a statue in honour of the many Scots who were forced to leave their native country during the Highland Clearances.
The Emigrants
I took photos of the statue, by Scottish sculptor, Gerald Laing, when we stopped in Helmsdale, during our trip to the Scottish Highlands in June. I though that the statue was evocative and moving, partly due to its location, high in the village looking out to sea.
