Durness, Scottish Highlands
Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Durness lies on the north west coast of Scotland. My visit to Durness was pretty brief, only a few hours on a rainy evening. The beach there is really beautiful. The sand is golden with a hint of peach (I sound like an interior decorator) with many large rocks strewn around the shoreline. This area has some of the oldest rocks and landforms on the planet. Just up from the beach, outside the Tourist Information Office, there is a collection of local rocks with name and age labels.

One of the main attractions is Smoo Cave the largest coastline cave in the UK. There’s a large entrance and it’s floodlit inside. There’s a dramatic waterfall in the inner chamber. It’s free to enter and appears to be open all hour although if you visit during the day you can pay few pounds to have an boat trip.
