Off to the Scottish Highlands
Welcome to my blog, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Tomorrow I’m to the Scottish Highlands for a weeks holiday. The itinerary is an early start tomorrow to avoid the delays caused by the weekend road works on the Forth Road Bridge, overnight in Inverness. On Sunday drive north from Inverness and then west along the north coast of Scotland to an overnight stop in Durness, the most north westerly village on mainland Scotland. I’ve not visited the area around Durness before and I wasn’t influenced by the fact that John Lennon had been there. On Monday it’s south down the west coast to Ullapool for 4 nights. On Friday drive to Oban to stay overnight and back home on the Saturday.

I won’t have a computer or internet access which if I’m on holiday should be a good thing. Sometimes I will say I’m just going to check my emails and 2 hours later I’m still sitting there. It is a problem switching off when you have your own business. I’ll be taking plenty photos and will write posts about the trip on my return, so it is really a non internet/computer “working holiday”.

I’m looking forward to your trip report. My husband and I might be doing a similar trip next May, but in reverse. Will you be passing through Shieldaig and Applecross?

Stacy, not sure if we will go to Applecross as you have to go down a one way single track road to reach it, also I camped at Applecross when I was a child. We will probably pass through Shieldaig as we head south towards Oban.

Do go through Applecross and the surrounding area, it is a good route and the beaches are fantastic, never mind the stunning landscape. Yes it is single-track, but so much of west coast is best seen this way.
Incidentially, it’s quite possible we will be crossing paths Karen, as I am up that way from Sunday to Friday, via Skye and Ullapool. I love the whole area, and do be adventurous :-) Only downside is the weather forecast doesn’t look good for the early part of of the week!
I’ve put up a rough map of the route last week. http://www.sterry.me.uk/blog/index.php/2007/05/22/title_2
