Review of Smiths Guest House, Edinburgh

I stayed at Smiths Guest House in Edinburgh on 13 - 16 May 2007, mainly because of the low price of £25 for a single room with private bathroom. I thought that the guest house was clean and tastefully decorated, with stripped wood and neutral colours - no flowers or frills in sight. The breakfast, served between 8.00 - 8.30 was adequate. There is free on street parking in the side roads close to the guest house.

It is good value for a single room. I stayed in the single room which has a private bathroom outside the room, it now (from 21 May 2007) costs £27 a night. The single room is pretty small, I think that the shower room is probably about the same size as the bedroom. You have to walk across the corridor to get to your bathroom which you unlock with the same key as your bedroom. I liked the view from the room to a small public garden with two large horse chestnut trees. If you want to have an ensuite bathroom you pay a bit more, £32 when I stayed. and have use of an ensuite twin or double room. When I stayed double or twin rooms cost £60 and the quad room £90. There is a two night minimum stay at weekends from the 25 May 2007. If you wish to check in outside the time periods, 09.00 - 12.00 and 18.00 - 20.00 you have to contact the guest house to arrange this.
