Frommer agrees with Europe a la Carte

Written by Karen Bryan

I saw a post today in the Europe String blog today celebrating the 50th anniversary of of the Frommer guides to Europe on $5 a day. I read the interview with Arthur Frommer and I felt as though Frommer and I were kindred spirits. He speaks about getting away from the tourist mill and the hardest challenge for travellers being to try keeping travel authentic. He advocates travelling out of season to avoid the tourist crowds and how whole areas have become so commercialised that it’s almost impossible to get an authentic feel during your visit. Does this sound like the title on the Europe a la Carte site, “See more of the real Europe by getting off the beaten track”.

It’s gratifying to know that Frommer would endorse of the ethos of my business. Now if only I could become as successful as him!
